What's the Best Solution for Keeping an Image on a Confluence Page in a Fixed Position?

Michael Furlan December 20, 2023

Apparently, images on a Confluence page might not remain in a fixed position, but rather can move across a page as the content area is expanded or contracted, such as when the browser window or sidebar is resized. One solution might be to add an image inside a table column set to fixed width although this could become involved if text above and below the image needs to span the width of the content area. Is there better means of keeping the position of an image on a page in a fixed position? Thanks.

Hi @Michael Furlan ,

In Confluence, images can sometimes move across a page as the content area is expanded or contracted due to the responsive nature of the platform. To keep the position of an image on a page in a fixed position, you can try the following methods:

  • Use a macro: The "Content Formatting for Confluence" app provides a macro called "align" that can be used to align an image to the right of the page. This macro might help you maintain the position of the image even when the content area is resized.
  • Use sections and columns: You can use sections and column macros to define your own page layout. By placing the image inside a section, you can ensure that the image remains in the same position even when the content area is expanded or contracted. For more details please refer Page Layouts, Columns and Sections

Also, if you feel my input help you please accept the answer.

The macros you mentioned don't seem to be available within our organization's Confluence. In any case, if an image is added inside a column in a section, the image's width and placement would be constrained by the column's width and where it's situated. Also, if the image appears within numbered steps (which is the case), the numbering would not be continuous if the steps span multiple sections. In short, it doesn't seem as if an ideal solution is available. Thanks for the suggestions though. They might be feasible if the macros are available, and the steps are not numbered.

Hi @Michael Furlan have you tried changing the page layout adding sections then using a section/column macro combo to control the layout within the section...?

Thanks for your suggestion. My previous reply would also apply here.
