What makes a Personal space Personal?

Hello,

Our company has decided to disable personal spaces for our employees as we want to avoid everyone creating their own space and keeping knowledge there that should be shared with teams as well as to combat the challenge of cleaning up old personal spaces when an employee leaves the company.

But we do still get the occasional exception request to allow for a personal space for information that does not need to be shared with a team. Our current strategy for these, when approved, has been to; re-enable personal spaces, have the user create one, then disable it again.

This feels silly to me. Could we just create a space and set the permissions to only the employee that needs it? Or is there something different about a personal space that I'm missing? What is a personal space behind the scenes? Does it have limited functionary?

Hello @Wood_ Jeremy

As far as I know the Personal Space has the same functionality as other spaces. The main difference that I see is that the user gets a directly link to their Personal Space under their avatar:

And the key for the Space is the user's Atlassian Account ID (the hexidecimal ID not the login) preceded by a tilde character, which means the key will always be unique without you having to worry about making it unique. And you cannot manually set a space to a string that contains non-alphanumeric characters, so you can't manually create the space with the necessary key to force it to be "the" personal space for the user.
