What happens after Confluence Server EOL?

We were wondering what working on our Instance with Confluence 7.13.7 would look like after the EOL date. We assume that all functions (read, edit, create, delete..) will be working as usual but without fixes and updates, also for security issues. The security issues would probably not be a big deal as our instance is not accessible via internet.

We hope that the server will still be working fine, as we might need some more weeks to migrate content after the EOL. And we have decided not to switch to DC or Cloud.

Hi @Jan

As you already mentioned the EOL version are without fixes and updates, security issues and the important one is Atlassian will not provide any support in case your instance face some issues which affect the functionality or facing any error, they provide support if Confluence version is in supported list. Also same applies to third party plugins as some plugins lock there functionalities if license is expired.

Also, check you database as well if you are not using local database as cloud providers are also has EOL for databases and if you not updated till end of date they will update it by default from their end and may be that could affect your version.

You can apply the DC licenses to your Confluence without requiring any migration or any other infra level changes like (Shared storage, Load Balancer, etc) as using Jira DC license for server instance is running Confluence DC instance with only single node and same applies to third party plugins as well just you need to check if all the plugins have DC compatible version or not and if you have any custom plugins check that if working as expected in lower instance after changing the Confluence application to DC one.

Check the below document for more details :

Hey @Jan

Plenty of official resources are available by Atlassian outlining and explaining the whole end-of-life topic for server licenses, just like Server end of support FAQs and Journey to Cloud.

You can continuously use Confluence, but like you said, without any updates and support. That will also apply to third-party apps you're currently using. They will likely stop working when the license runs out, but that's a bit, depending on the vendor.

Best, Max
