Have added a TEXT variable to a page template in Confluence and saved it.
When I try to Create a new page using this template, I get "Failed to get macro details" and the variable is nowhere to be seen in the page that is created.
Is this a bug?
Hi Corin,
Thank you for reporting this to us. To confirm, you edited an existing template to add text variables, and now you're getting an error message "Failed to get macro details". Is that right?
Do you see that error message where the variable is supposed to display? You can share a screenshot of the problem, if you have one available. Also, are the templates with existing variables still working? Was this template working before you added the variable?
I'm aware of an issue now where if a template was created in the legacy editor, and you go to create a page with that template, Confluence tries to display the page preview in the new editor, causing that error message:
If you were to create the page even with the error message, does the created page load the variables correctly?
Thank you!
Shannon
Hi Shannon
Indeed, I was editing an existing pre-packaged template in Jira Cloud and adding a variable.
The template works fine if I remove the variable without erroring.
If I insert the variable, the page errors on load and then the variable is nowhere in the page at all.
Thanks
Corin

Hi Corin,
Thank you for confirming that. So when you publish the page you created with the broken variable, it's not included on the page at all?
If you recreate the template from scratch as a new template, does it work?
