Hi all,
I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for in the community posts so I thought to post a question of my own.
What I am trying to do is to include an excerpt from one template and put it in another. That may seem problematic but there is a method to that madness. I want to create documentation with two or three levels of detail, Low, Mid, and High. What I want to be able to do is do all of the leg work in the High detail document using the Excerpt macro to mark certain sections. Then make the Mid and/or Low detail document templates using the Include Excerpt macro referencing the High detail document. My thought process on this is that there can be a "in case of emergency with X" document to put out a figurative fire and a "this is literally everything you need to know about X". My concern is introducing a chance of error by writing two or three documents, the "emergency" document would pull data directly from the non-abridged version.
So far I have only been able to include excerpts from a page. I was able to get things to work the way I intended once, but since the template was created from a page rather than a template I find that I have to make a page as desired then make a template with the Include Excerpts in it, then I can use that template to make a page. Which is pretty much just making a page with extra steps.
I am open to suggestions, but I think having things organized this way would allow me to create new documentation templates for my less tech savvy teammates to author on their own, I could just ask them to complete the highly detailed version and they'd be done.
Thank you!
