Using Confluence 6.5 Server.
I've added the User List macro to a page so the admins can view a list of active users. The problem is, the macro won't render.
The error message I get isn't very helpful:
"Error: Rendering this content exceeded the timeout of 120 seconds."
I've already enabled the User Log in Listener module under User Lister in the System add-ons.
Does anyone have ideas on what I can do to get this macro to work?
Good day, Kathy.
Can I please confirm if the macro is configured to display all groups in the Confluence instance via asterisk like this?
The timeout error that you are getting could possibly mean that the macro was unable to retrieve all information within the default timeout period of 120 seconds (possibly a large group) and eventually, displays the message.
Additionally, a slow network can also contribute to the issue as well. So, can you please confirm if you noticed any errors in the atlassian-confluence.log when the page is rendered so we can see what is happening in the back end?
Hi, Ahmad -
Thank you for your response.
Yes, I can confirm that the macro is configured to display all groups. We use the groups in our AD, so there are a lot of groups. It's also configured to display only the active users. Right now, that's just the implementation team, so the number wouldn't exceed 10.
Also, I had our IT Admin look for the log file. He couldn't find it. We have a number of log files on the server. Which one should I be looking at? Let me know.
Thanks for your help!
Kathy

Hi, Kathy.
You are most welcome. For reference, please refer to the Working with Confluence Logs to find where the Confluence log is located. We will then be able to see what is going on when the issue is reproduced.
Meanwhile, have you tried to just narrow the scope to only one group and verify if the same timeout is observed since you mentioned that you have a lot of groups?

Hi, Ahmad,
I've got it working! Your suggestion to limit the number of groups was the key. Once I did that, it all started working just fine. Luckily, we have Confluence-specific groups, so this works out well. More groups might be added to the AD without my knowledge, but that's a worry for another day. :)
Thanks for your help.
