Update multiple tables by updating one source page

Administrator September 19, 2018

I am working on a project space in Confluence where we will house a disaster recovery/communication matrix. There will be a decision tree to click through to get to the correct contacts to communicate to as well as house a process to follow, depending on the type of issue identified. There will by multiple times where the same contact or group of contacts will be identified within the communication process.

Is there a way to create multiple tables that can reference a master list on Confluence, so that when the master list is updated all the tables that connect to it are automatically updated? So for example, if a new person is added to a contact group, I can update that group on the master list one time and all tables will pull from that. Instead of having to locate each table individually and hope I don't miss one.

I would try the commercial plugin multi-excerpt. It will allow you to create multiple named excerpts on a page, as well as reference named excerpts from multiple pages (across multiple spaces) on a single page. IMHO this is an essential plugin for content reuse.

On use case is to have multiple content snippets on a page out of the page tree, that then is used to reuse that same content in multiple areas.

Hi there, Jeremy.

May I check with you if you might be interested to check on the Excerpt macro in Confluence to see if this might be something that you can use?

For example:

Master table

Child table

Any changes done in the master table will be reflected in the child table respectively.

For reference, please check on the official documentation here - Excerpt Macro and let me know if that works for you. Thanks.

Thank you Ahmed! I will test this today and see if I can make it work for my needs. This does sound like what I am looking for. Have a fantastic day!

Ahmed, so far this is so close to the answer I need. I was able to create a master list and connect that to a different page.

The issue I am running into is that I want to be able to only show a portion of that information from that list to each issue.

Ex. In two separate areas in Conflunce I need to reference just Group 1 from the Master List. In another area I need to reference Group 1 and Group 2 info to be inserted from the Master List.

Is there a way to pull pieces from the Master List? Or is it all or nothing?

Hi, Jeremy.

Hope all is well on your end. As for the functionality of excerpt, this is as close as we can get to pull the information from a master table as it does not include the ability to pull specific information (columns or rows) to be displayed on the child tables on other pages. Perhaps you can check on @Bill Bailey suggestion to see if the multi excerpt add-on works for you?
