I am unable to connect Confluence with a Google account.
The use case:
This has worked fine earlier in 2025 from a different Atlassian organization.
I have found various Q&As about similar issues and tried the following:
I suspect that this could have something to do with Google's changed policy on connecting less secure third apps. But Confluence is supposed to connect based on OAuth 2.0.
I have tried third party apps from the marketplace and they seem to work. However, with some disadvantages, besides the cost.
The functionality that gets completely lost when using apps from the marketplace are Smart links in Databases, which I really started to like.
I am really lost at this moment and welcome any kind of support.
Hello @Thierry Berset
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Are you trying to connect to a Google workspace that you administer? If not, contact the administrators of the Google workspace. Perhaps they made a change to block the access as per:
Thanks for the quick reply and for pointing directly to the Google support document.
I do have admin permissions in the Google workspace and found the following:
First check under: API controls > App access control > Configured apps - View details
Confluence App is configured for the org, with the following OAuth scope for specific Google data:
I couldn't find a documentation on the OAuth scopes required by Confluence and instead copied them from the third party App that successfully accesses files in Google Drive.
I could set the App to "Trusted", but I would avoid for permanent operation if possible.
To that point, both Confluence and the third party app are identical.
Second check: Select the App from API controls > App access control
Confluence
Third party app
Third check: My Google account
I am running all trials with my own admin account
Confluence
Does not appear in Third party apps and services
Does not appear in "Recent security activity"
Third-party app
Appears in third-party apps and services
Appears in "Recent security activity"
I have even temporarily allowed "Less secure app access"
Therefore still lost.
It looks to me as if the attempt of Confluence to connect gets blocked right-away, without even leaving a trace.
