Where can I find options to either set a background color for the table of contents or change the type color or put a border around the  table of contents?

@Jennifer Sherman Are you talking about when you use the Table of Contents macro on a Confluence page?

A workaround to try:

  1. Insert a table with 1 column and 2 rows.
  2. Turn off the header row and delete 1 of the rows (you can't turn off the header row unless you also have another row in your table).
  3. Set a background color for your table.
  4. Insert the Table of Contents macro in the table cell.

Hi @Jennifer Sherman and welcome to the community.

I'm afraid, that's not possible natively, unless you use one of the so called 'theme' apps or an app that builds a genuine static website for you from Confluence content.

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=themes%20confluence

Most popular apps are:

  • Scroll Viewport
  • Spacecraft
  • Refined for Confluence

Then there are formatting macros app that focus on specific UI elements.

We're using Scroll Viewport and our site looks like this. (TOC appears at a certain width of the page).
