In 2015 I bought a Confluence server starter license for ten users. I stopped using it long ago. Now I want to use it in the latest release of Confluence, but it shows me an invalid license error.
I would like to know why this happens. Is this because it is a starter license? Is it because I am trying to install a release which is later than the expiry date of my license? If so, what is the real meaning of "perpetual".
Thanks for your help.
The license covers all updates for 1 year. You can continue to install any version which was released during the period while you had valid support. Otherwise you will need to purchase an updated license.
Hi Boris
Thanks for your reply.
Suppose in 2018 I buy a license for 250 persons.
What if in 2020 you update your systems in such a way my version is no longer workable. Do you keep a promise of perpetual working conditions for all previous releases?
Otherwise, I will be forced to buy a new license, which is not a good perspective.
Cheers,

Just to be clear, I am not an Atlassian employee.
Let's assume you buy a 250 user license in 2018, then set up Confluence. If you then upgrade at the last moment and get on the latest version supported by your license in 2019 you are fine. If in 2020 Atlassian changes something, it will have 0 impact on your already installed software. If you decide to upgrade in 2020, then you will need a new license.

Given this answer, maybe Atlassian should be more clear about these terms.

They seem pretty clear in the licence FAQ to me.
