Space Key formating lower Confluence

When I create a new space the space key is generated automatically in uppercase.

How can i change it to lowercase?

Could you share with us what is the objective of changing the space key to lowercase? Is there some kind of issue or solution that you are trying to come up with? Let us know so we can help you if needed.

For you to change the Space Key from uppercase to lowercase, you can do the following:

1. Go to the desired space
2. Click Space Tools > Content Tools > Export
3. After reaching this point, select XML to export
4. After finishing the export, go the download location
5. Extract the .zip file
6. Open the entities.xml file
7. Search for the part that reads <property name="key"><![CDATA[YOURKEY]]></property>
8. Change the YOURKEY (this will be your space key) to the same but in lowercase
9. Save and close the file
10. Now, open the exportDescriptor.properties file
11. Look the part that reads spaceKey=YOURKEY
12. Change the value to the lowercase key equivalent
13. Save and close the file
14. Zip all three files (exportDescriptior entities and the attachments folder)
15. Go to Cog Icon > General Configuration > Import & Restore
16. Select to restore
17. Select the zip containing the modified files
18. Restore it
19. The Space key should be lowercase now

NOTES:

• If you do not want to change the space key for the modified file, you will need to delete the already existing space from your instance
• If you can or wish to change the space key, you should change it in the files before trying to import the space into Confluence
• You can not import a space that has the same space key as an already existing space

Thanks for your quick answer, it works great.

But I want the key to be written automatically in lower case when creating a new space.

Is that possible?

Oh, alright! This is much quicker than the process shared earlier.

There is no automatic way of this to happen, however, you can type the key manually during space creation in lowercase and the Space Key will be set as lower key.
