Set up step error installing Confl 4.2.2 evaluation on Windows XP

The tomcat window displays this:

I'm not very technical, but I have successfully installed Confluence on this machine in the past.

  1. I ran the "uninstall" program to get rid of old versions of confluence
  2. Updated the JRE to v7 (the latest 32bit download)
  3. I told the virus checker to ignore c:\program files\Atlassian
  4. I downloaded atlassian-confluence-4.2.2-x32.exe and ran it

The first time it sort-of-almost worked. It asked for the server ID and I faffed around a bit trying to find that and might have closed the tab in Firefox and confused it

The next time it never got to the server ID bit. I uninstalled everything, rebooted (a few times) and tried again a couple of times.

One time I got a 'system crash' message but stupidly failed to save it.

Is there anything obviously wrong that I'm doing?

Closing this because I never had a chance to check it out. I do think it's probably JAVA_HOME pointing to the wrong place

Hi Kathleen,

In the step 2 you indicate that you upgrade the JRE to v7, I think here's the problem. If I remember it's not compatible with this version, you have to install the version 6 and point the java_home to that version.

It should work on v7... But maybe it has problems with it.

Here's a documentation for Windows:

Thank you, Ramiro. I did check that Java 7 was ok first https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Supported+Platforms

But you're right, it must be a problem with JAVA_HOME. I'll have to try again when I've got some time to spare on this.
