Select Insight Object / Objects from a pre-filtered list

The OOTB insight Macro allows for a list of insight objects to be displayed.

What we are looking for, is when the new page is created, the author selects one or more of the items from the list.

In this use case, we are creating Knowledge Base Articles and will need to select which Version / Versions the article refers to.

Is the only way for the author to manually edit the Insight Macro?

Unfortunately, I believe so... and this was the reason we stopped using this macro.  It's too much work for the page creators/editors.  

It's a free app, so I doubt they will improve any time soon.
