SLA/DR For Confluence Cloud

Joseph Miles January 18, 2023

Hi all,

I'm new to confluence cloud, and have just started moving sets of personal notes, ideas, etc up to confluence as it proved easier than maintaining notebooks for organization, updates, etc. I just have a single user free account with a couple spaces.

My question is how safe is free confluence cloud in terms of backup, sla, etc. I had tried to find a page posting the specs for it, but maybe they don't post them? Just want to be sure that after I move all my stuff up there and clean up a bunch of old physical notebooks that are taking up space, it's all secure and safe up in the cloud.

I realize putting it up in the cloud is never quite as guaranteed as having a physical copies in a file cabinet somewhere in my home, but I'm more or less looking to know whether confluence is secure beyond a reasonable doubt on the free tier? Is data stored cross-region, is there high availability, standard production-ready stuff. Or do the paid tiers get higher guarantee>

Thanks!

Thanks! Looks like there aren't any SLAs published for the free or standard tiers, but at least it looks like data residency is set to store across multiple AWS regions by default for the free tier.

It also looks like I can export the data out of spaces as well. Would you happen to know if there is any way to set that up routinely? I figure if there is, it's not available in the free tier.

Thanks again

It's not about publication, Atlassian just don't have SLAs for the standard tier.  They don't support the free (or starter) tiers at all.  Although we can always ask them nicely here.

They do not store across AWS regions, they store in the one nearest the place that you were using when you signed up.

You can grab a backup every 48 hours, whatever your user tier, but I'd recommend using one of the backup apps rather than trying to script it for yourself.

Understood. Would you happen to have a backup app in mind that you like? Figure I'll save some time researching if you already happen to have a suggestion.

Bother, I missed the link in my previous posting, sorry.  It's worth looking at all the options.

As a partner, I should not really be making any recommendations other than a) my own products, or b) my honest experiences which clearly push an option to the top of the list.

But on backups, Adaptavist don't have a product.  I don't have much experience with them either, not really had a need for Cloud backups, but of the ones I have run into, I can confidently say that you should probably concentrate on the ones with more than 50 installs recorded on the marketplace.  The candidates do different things, but you're the person who knows what they need better than I, and their descriptions will make it clear which one(s) you might want!
