Sanjeewa Ranasinghe August 15, 2022

Have you ever used Jira/Confluence combo to manage a large scale enterprise level project which has many change management components?

what are the main blockers for not using these products for,

requirement gathering and requirement management

Change management activities

business case development

portfolio or program management / portfolio assessment

Also, what are the wins?

Hello @Sanjeewa Ranasinghe ,

welcome to the community. I´m Bernhard from Ease Solutions, the vendor of R4J - Requirements Management for Jira

With our app (as an extension of your Jira system) you can easier gather and manage requirements within Jira. So your data stays there and can be used for any other Jira purpose. R4J helps you to

  • Organize the Jira issues in a readable tree structure
  • See the dependency in a coverage and traceability view between each other, the development tasks, epics and stories and also test/verification issues
  • Identify changes by the revision details
  • Notify task/test owners when a linked requirement changes
  • Baseline (and diff) your features for each milestone
  • Export your requirements in a document based on your corporate template

If you like to learn more, you are welcome to join our public demos

Best regards,

Hello @Bernhard Doleschel _Ease Solutions_

Thank you for your reply. I've been watching your demos and I did try to register but unfortunately my time zone is New Zealand and it will be 1AM or 2AM for me :(

we are heavily dependent on documentation due to government regulatory requirements especially when it comes to the strategic alignment of our projects. I'm trying to set up jira in accordance with our project management framework (3PM). Currently jira is used by our development teams so setting up the project in Jira comes at the delivery stage. I'm looking at ways to use it from the early stages.

our stages are

Concept - Evaluate - Plan - Deliver - Adopt - Realisation

Hello @Sanjeewa Ranasinghe ,

thanks for your feedback. Please share your contact details via our web support page, so we can setup a demo for your in your time zone.

R4J is capable to create e.g. Word exports based on the tree structure. The exports could be used to provide documentation matching the regulatory requirements.

Best Regards, Bernhard

@Sanjeewa Ranasinghe Welcome to the Atlassian community

I have used Jira, Confluence and Jira Service Management on many large scale enterprise projects.  Each project I have used it a little bit different to meet the needs of the project teams.  Every project the applications have worked really well and met all of my project needs.  If you could provide a little more information about the project I could provide some additional insights.

Hi @Brant Schroeder

Thanks. it's not about a particular project per se.

our project management framework has the following stages

Concept - Evaluate - Plan - Deliver - Adopt - Realisation

We set up the project in Jira at the delivery stage because our development teams are currently using jira for their development work. I'm looking at the best way to set it up so that our project management teams can use Jira/Confluence from the early stages of our framework. it is a bit tricky work to have a templated approach to rule them all.

we also follow Better Business Case methodology for business case development.

what I have done so far is set up the jira tree structure

Business requirements(high-level requirements)

Detailed requirements

Development task

test cases

also I'm going to open jira to our SMEs for their feedback on requirements and approvals. then later down the track I will have dashboards to view traceability.

I'm hoping to include "lessons learned" Benefits mapping, process maps, and change management activities.
