I want to use Atlassian whiteboard for technical task planning, purely because of the feature "Create a Jira issue" from my sticky notes. However, I am not able to successfully use it. When I click to "Create a Jira issue", it pops-up a window showing some of the required fields but also shows this message "Some fields require more information. Continue in Jira". Upon "Create in Jira" it shows the backlog page of my project.

I was expecting it to create the tickets under my Project>{Parent} ticket.

I think this is because, it doesn't show all the required fields, such as "Account" in this case. How can I bring all the required fields in "Create a Jira issue" pop-up?

Hey Murali

Welcome to the atlassian community !!

You are correct in your observation:

when using Atlassian Whiteboards to create Jira issues from sticky notes, the "Create a Jira issue" pop-up only displays a subset of required fields. If your Jira project has additional required fields (like "Account" or custom fields), the Whiteboard integration may not surface all of them. As a result, you see the "Some fields require more information. Continue in Jira" message, and the process redirects you to Jira's backlog page to complete the issue creation.

Current Workflow of whiteboard with Jira:

  • The Whiteboard integration dynamically updates the fields shown based on the selected project and issue type, but it currently does not support displaying all custom or advanced required fields.

  • When a required field is not supported in the Whiteboard UI, the integration falls back to Jira's full issue creation screen, where you must complete the missing information.

Is there a way to show all required fields in the pop-up?

  • As of now, there is no supported way to force all required fields (including custom fields like "Account") to appear in the Whiteboard's "Create a Jira issue" pop-up. This is a known limitation of the integration.

  • The fallback to Jira's backlog or issue creation page is intentional to ensure all required data is captured, especially for fields the Whiteboard UI cannot render.

Feature Request :

Currently we have feature request in place

Allow required custom fields from Jira projects to be displayed in the 'Create a Jira issue' modal on Confluence Whiteboard

As this is a feature that may benefit other users as well, I'd suggest you to vote, add yourself as a watcher and comment on this ticket with your specific use case in order to get notified about updates on the development cycle of this feature request. I also linked this issue on an internal comment to provide more visibility on the feature request.

I  also recommend that you watch the Feature Request. So you are notified when our Development Team makes any decisions on this.

Summary:
Currently, you cannot bring all required fields into the Whiteboard "Create a Jira issue" pop-up. The integration will prompt you to continue in Jira if it cannot display or handle all required fields for your project
