Reactivate deactivated Confluence site and restore data?

Hello Atlassian Support,

I am the site admin of the Confluence Cloud site for:

https://wts-project.atlassian.net

We previously had a Confluence space on this site. One example page URL is:

https://wts-project.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DFE/pages/39354370/Production+Deployment

However, Confluence is no longer listed under Billing for this site, and when I try to open the page above I get "Page unavailable / Your Atlassian Cloud site is currently unavailable".

We recently received an email that our Confluence subscription was being deactivated due to inactivity, but we did not intend to permanently delete our documentation.

Could you please:

1. Confirm whether the data for the Confluence site on wts-project.atlassian.net is still retained (not permanently deleted), and
2. Reactivate the Confluence subscription / restore access to this site and the DFE space?

This page URL and space key (DFE) can be used to locate the content in your backend.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi @Software Wata

Atlassian may re-activate the site if it is not permanently deleted.

Please contact support via Atlassian Support portal. If it is inaccessible for you, please try submitting a ticket through this page instead: Atlassian Contact – Purchasing & Licensing

Adding to this...

When Atlassian deactivates a subscription due to inactivity they hold the data for a limited period of time before permanently deleting it. The amount of time differs depending on the nature of the subscription; a free trial, a free subscription, or a paid subscription. The time period can be as short as 15 days.

I believe they also send an email when they are about to permanently delete the data.

If you are still within that window you should be able to reactivate the site following the guidance on this page:

https://support.atlassian.com/subscriptions-and-billing/docs/reactivate-a-subscription/

If you have difficulty with that, then contacting the Atlassian team directly as advised by @Tansu Akdeniz is the next step.

Hi @Tansu Akdeniz and @Trudy Claspill,

Thanks a lot for your replies.

Yes, I did receive the deactivation email from Atlassian. Here are the details:

Subject: “[Important Notice] Your Confluence subscription is being deactivated due to inactivity”
From: no-reply@watasoftware-project.atlassian.net
Date: 20 Nov 2025

In the email it says that my Confluence app on watasoftware-project.atlassian.net is being deactivated due to inactivity and that the data will be permanently deleted soon.

However, when I follow the documentation you linked about reactivating a subscription, I have a problem:

- In admin.atlassian.com, for the organization/site **watasoftware-project**, the Billing page shows **“You don’t have any apps right now”**, so there is no Confluence subscription listed that I can reactivate.
- When I try to open the wiki URL (for example this page):
https://wts-project.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DFE/pages/39354370/Production+Deployment
I get “Page unavailable – Your Atlassian Cloud site is currently unavailable”.

So I am within the deactivation window (I have the email), but I cannot reactivate the subscription myself because it no longer appears under Billing.

Could you please help escalate this to the Atlassian team to check whether the Confluence data is still retained and, if possible, reactivate the Confluence subscription / restore access to the site?

I can also provide screenshots of the deactivation email, the Billing pages, and the “Page unavailable” screen if that helps.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi  @Tansu Akdeniz and @Trudy Claspill & Atlassian team,

Thanks for your replies and guidance.

I just want to clarify the situation with both Jira and Confluence, and why I am asking specifically to recover the old Confluence data.

As you can see from the attached screenshot of my inbox, I received multiple emails from Atlassian between 12 Nov and 24 Nov with subjects like:

- “[Important Notice] Your Jira subscription is being deactivated due to inactivity”
- “[Action Required] Your Jira subscription will be deactivated due to inactivity soon”
- “[Important Notice] Your Confluence subscription is being deactivated due to inactivity”
- “[Action Required] Your Confluence subscription will be deactivated due to inactivity soon”

Using the links in those emails I was able to successfully **reactivate Jira**. Jira on `wts-project.atlassian.net` is now working again and I can see the Jira subscription under Billing.

However, for **Confluence** I have a different problem:

1. The deactivation emails say that my Confluence app on
`watasoftware-project.atlassian.net` is being deactivated due to inactivity and that the data will be permanently deleted soon.

2. When I go to `admin.atlassian.com` and select the organization/site `watasoftware-project`, the **Billing** page shows:
**“You don’t have any apps right now”** – there is no Confluence subscription listed, so I cannot reactivate it myself using the documentation.

3. When I try to open an old Confluence page for our documentation, for example:
I get the message: **“Page unavailable – Your Atlassian Cloud site is currently unavailable.”**

4. Because I could not see the old Confluence subscription in Billing, I tried creating a **new Confluence Free** on `wts-project.atlassian.net`.
This new Confluence site is empty and does **not** contain our old spaces such as the DFE space or the “Production Deployment” page.

What I really need is **not a new empty Confluence**, but the **old Confluence content** that existed before deactivation.

Could you please:

1. Check in your backend whether the original Confluence site/data associated with:
- `watasoftware-project.atlassian.net` (from the deactivation email), and
- the old wiki URLs under `wts-project.atlassian.net/wiki` (space key DFE)
is still retained and not yet permanently deleted, and

2. If the data still exists, reactivate that original Confluence subscription or restore the old Confluence content (for example, by restoring the previous Confluence site or importing the old data into my current Confluence on `wts-project.atlassian.net`).

I am still within the deactivation window (the emails were sent from 12–24 Nov), and we did not intend to permanently delete our company documentation.

I can provide any additional screenshots (Billing pages, “Page unavailable” screen, and all deactivation emails) if that helps.

Thank you very much for your help in trying to recover the old Confluence data.
