My team uses a quick search panel to find specific words on wiki pages that we want to edit. When searching the English pages for an English word like allergy, the search also finds "allergies". However, when searching the Swedish pages for a Swedish word, vårdkontakt, the search will not find the plural version (vårdkontakter).
If I search for vårdkontakt*, I only get two hits (one for vårdkontakter and one for vårdkontaktsinformation) although I know for a fact that there are many more. If I search for v*rdkontakt*, I get 72 hits (including vårdkontaktsinformation and vårdkontaktstyp).
v?rdkontakt* will also produce 72 hits.
Would Swedish special characters like å, ä, ö interfere with the proper behavior of the search?
I know your struggle too well. :( Unfortunately yes, regional special characters such as Umlauts and Æ, Ø, Å do interfere with search results.
There is plenty open issues at Atlassian:

Thanks @Sloan Niklas Becker! I added a comment about Swedish to the 56200 jira, for what it's worth.
