Hello, my group keeps fillable PDFs in confluence on a page that contains some other information like tables, dates, notes. The tables/notes are edited within the confluence page itself but the PDF is uploaded as a file. However, when the form is rendered in Confluence there are artifacts from the fillable fields (See attached image). This is not specific to any one browser. I have had the same result in Edge, Firefox, and Chrome.
Clicking "Edit" to open the confluence companion app does open Acrobat and allow me to view and edit the file normally. But for someone who does not need to edit the form, and simply needs to quickly view its contents, those steps are time consuming. Flattening the PDF is not a good solution because we do still want to maintain the ability to fill in the form's fields.
Are there any good plugins for viewing PDFs in Confluence out there? Most seem to be marketed for exporting Confluence pages as PDFs which is not what we're looking for here. Is there a configuration option that might help with this, or are there other solutions folks recommend?
Thanks!
As of 3/12/2026, this is still an open and unresolved bug for Data Center deployments: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-99121
I would like to see it resolved.
There are some PDF viewer plugins with their own pros/cons:
Hi @Vincent Wild ,
On top of what Brant asked, I'm curios of what you are using for these 'fillable fields' (input areas) that seem to be an issue in the PDF viewer 👀 Is it like a Marketplace app or some custom solution? Also, how does the process of initially submitting the form look like?
I mean, generally, on-prem environments can become unstable when you have some custom addons installed. But again, might not necessarily be the case here.
Cheers,
Tobi

The form itself is not filled out in Confluence. The fillable fields were built in Adobe Acrobat using the 'Prepare Form' feature, then the PDF is mailed to and filled in by external users. The PDF is returned and uploaded to a Confluence page as a file. When the PDF is opened in Confluence it does not render those fields properly (like in the picture.)

@Vincent Wild got it. Thanks for explaining!
As 8.5.31 is an LTS version, if you have a valid license, I would suggest reaching out to Support team. They have dedicated teams for on-prem products, so they should be able to troubleshoot this much faster.
I don't have an on-prem environment atm to test this out, so I can't be much of use here 🫤

@Vincent Wild welcome to the Atlassian community
I am not aware of any apps that would do what you are looking for in Data Center. What version of data center are you on? I thought this issue was resolved in Data Center and Cloud.

Hi @Brant Schroeder , I am on version 8.5.31 of Data Center. Do you know which patch/version this was resolved on?
