Page Access Problem After Importing of Space in Conluence

Deleted user February 23, 2018

Hello,

I just imported a Confluence Space from another Atlassian Cloud site. The importing seems to have worked fine and I can see the pages under Space Tools --> Permissions --> Restricted Pages.

The problem however is that I don't seem to be able to access any of these pages. The instruction page on how to import/export Confluence Spaces states that this might happen and that you have to "recreate" the users/groups that have access to the imported pages.

How to I "recreate" said users/groups? If there is a group called "team_a" in the Atlassian Cloud site that I imported said space from, how can I recreate that team in my Atlassian Cload?

Best regards,
Niklas

Hi Niklas,

You'll need to recreate the groups within User Management, and then manually add each of the users back into their required groups.

See Manage Users and Groups for further details.

Let me know if you have any trouble!

Hello Shannon,

Thank you for your speedy response!

I have attached two images, one showing my groups and one showing my space. I have added myself to both "xcally_team" and "xcally_v2" but when I click the lock-icon in the space tools I get to a page saying that I don't have access to view it.

Do you know why this happens and how I can solve it?

Best regards,
Niklas

Niklas,

I am able to access your instance as a support engineer, so I'm wondering if it would be okay if I had a look?

If so, is your instance the co*****el.atlassian.net one? Is the problem with your user, Niklas, or Jens? I just want to be sure since that's the user that created the groups.

Shannon

Hello Shannon,

You are more than welcome to access our site as a support engineer.

The problem is really with all users, no user can access the restricted pages regardless of group belonging or role in confluence. But to start with it would be fine if I (Niklas) could access them.

If that's not possible for some reason making Jens able to access them (since he can't either at the moment) is also fine.

Best regards,
Niklas

Niklas,

Thank you!

Can you see the Installation page now? I clicked the lock on the right under Operations which did successfully remove restrictions, and then I added them back as before:

It seems for some reason or another the permissions there aren't working properly, maybe because the groups didn't exist on the space before it was imported.

Now that you've added the necessary groups to Confluence, would it be possible for you to re-import the space and see if you can access them? It may be a lot faster than having each lock clicked individually and having to re-apply the permissions.

Shannon

Hello Shannon,

Thank you for your assistance. I could indeed access the installation-page after your changes. Are those changes not something I can do by myself?

I deleted the space and imported it again, but despite the groups already being in my confluence space I can't access any pages. What's ever weirder is that the groups shows up under "Indvidual Users" under the Permission tab in the Space Tools-area.

So I'm afraid that didn't solve it. I would like some further assistance in this challenge.

You are still allowed to access our space during your troubleshooting.

Thanks in advance,
Niklas

When I'm importing the space again I get the error "com.atlassian.confluence.importexport.ImportExportException: Unable to complete import: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationException: could not execute statement". Perhaps that could have something to do with the issue I'm experiencing?

Niklas,

Thank you for trying that.

We'd really like to get a deeper look into your issue, so I created a support ticket so we can have a look at your logs.

You should receive an email shortly if you haven't already with your support ticket number.

Once you get that, would you mind uploading a copy of your space export to the issue here:

This can only be seen on your support ticket and won't be public. Please also feel free to comment on that support ticket with information regarding which other Cloud instance the export came from so we can have a look at that as well.

Thank you again for all your help! I'll watch this closely because I really want to know what's going on as well and why you're not able to remove restrictions yourself.

Once the issue is resolved, please feel free to share it here in case other users are running into the same issue!

Regards,

Shannon
