I have recorded and edited a loom video. It plays ok in browser but when I download the mp4 video file, the sound is lost form the video. I tried different players but the players work fine on other videos.

Why do I get Loom Downloads without sound?

Hi @Tobias Lange _Conversional_ ,

This usually happens due to how Loom encodes audio in downloaded MP4 files. The video itself is fine (which is why it plays correctly in the browser), but during download the audio track may be encoded in a format that some players can’t decode properly.

To fix this, try the following:

Download the video again and make sure the export completes fully

Play the file in VLC Media Player, which supports more audio codecs than default players

If the audio still doesn’t play, re-export the video from Loom using a different quality setting

As a workaround, open the video in Loom and use “Share → Download as MP4” instead of browser download

If the issue continues across multiple downloads, it’s likely a Loom-side encoding issue. In that case, reaching out to Loom Support with the video link will allow them to reprocess the file with the correct audio track.
