Need to validate that a field doesn't have a special character.

I'm using Confiforms to create pages.  The title field is used for the page title.  I want to prevent users from entering any special characters, especially parenthesis.  I tried to create a RegEx, but the only one that works is [!@#$%^&*(),.?":{}|<>].  Since the brackets are required to make the validation work, I can't use this formula in the Confiforms Field definition or with the CConfiforms Rules for field definition, the page can't be saved. Is there another way to check the field for special characters?
