Need to give Space permission to users outside network, with read/ write permissions.

ehteshamuddin April 11, 2017

Hello All,

We have a confluence instance with VPN setup. Need to give access to users outside network to have permissions for specific space with read permisions and read/write to create there own pages.
We have anonymus view for people on intranet but need to restrict that for users outside network( as of now they cant see as we have vpn restricting that).

I have thought of solution that,

  • buying unlimited user license
  • adding a directory with all employee with read only access so we can restrict anonymus view.
  • then creating directory/ group for outside users and giving them permissions.

Can anyone please help if there is anyother way I can allow specific outside network users to have permisions for particular space with read/ write permissons?

Unless I am missing something, you only need to:

  • Add the internal users (now anonymous) to a group
  • Give the internal group read-only access on the Confluence Admin>Global Permissions page
  • Add the external users to a group
  • Give the external group permission to use Confluence on the Confluence Admin>Global Permissions page
  • Give the external group permission to read/write on the Space Permissions of the space they will be contributing to.

I do not think you need a 10,000+ user license unless you have that many employees currently accessing Confluence anonymously.
