Is there a way to prevent comments on the draft page from appearing in the published page?

We would like to hide the comments on the draft page from appearing on the published page. Is this possible? How, if at all (and if the answer to the posted question is yes), would this affect comments that are directly posted on the published page?

The draft page is only made visible to the wider public/group when the "publish" button is clicked (although for both the draft and published page one can set view/edit access permissions for individual persons or groups of people). The draft page is the work-in-progress page that is only synced with the published page when it is explicitly "published".

What's the difference between a draft or published page?
