Hi,
Is it possible to hyperlink to local files within Confluence? I have tried taking the local file path and inserting it as a link under web link section but this doesn’t work.
I need to keep the files on the network and not store them on Confluence as other non-Confluence users need to access and edit them too.
Hope you can help.
Thanks
According to the document - it is not possible - https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/cannot-link-to-local-files-from-within-confluence-216958257.html
But there are few threads showing the solution -
I have tried it, but if the user have added the drive to his/her network drives it works but most of the times it fails
I would see if anyone have the solution/ work around
Yeah, this is sad, but what I've done is create a non hyper link text only reference such as:
file://corporateServerName/patha/pathb/file.html
file://corporateServerName/patha/pathb/file.doc
file://corporateServerName/patha/pathb/file.pdf
Same for local files:
file://C:\Users\me\DEV\DOCS\file.doc
then just paste this into the URL path.
Why Atlassian does not have a simple CTRL^K equivalent for local files and interpretation that says open new browser page and post this in the URL is just odd.

I found a simple workaround.
- Open the desired OneNote page in the browser
- Select the Share button
- Copy the link to the notebook
- Paste the link on the desired Confluence page
Done :)
