Hi,

I am trying to import an HTML exported zip file from a different account into our Confluence site using the instructions in the official documentation.

I have a zip file that includes a folder with all the exported HTML files and folders for CSS, images, attachments.

When I import it and the process is finished, the new space is created and I can see the new pages but they are all without any content. Blank pages pretty much.

What can be the issue?

Thanks,
George

Hi @George Erakleous , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your post.

About how long ago did you did the import? The reason I ask is because here in the documentation - https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/import-data-from-html-to-confluence/ , it says the import can take a while, so it could be that while the page structure has been created, the content isn't done loading / being imported.

Is this issue still persisting for you?

Please can you verify also that you aren't trying to import unsupported content - https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/faq-import-data-from-html-to-confluence/ ?

or that you have exceeded the storage of a Free or Standard plan?

Looking forward to your response.

Best wishes

Hi @George Erakleous , I have also flagged this post to Atlassian as other are also posting about having some difficulty importing.

Hey, for replying!

To answer your earlier questions, yes I have checked the imported space and pages after I got the email saying that it completed the import and still no content, they are empty.

We are also on the Free plan.

Thanks for flagging it with the team.

George.

Hi @George Erakleous,

Welcome to Atlassian Community.

I understand that you are facing issues viewing the content of the newly imported space.

Please confirm, where did you collect the space export from? Is it from another Confluence site? If yes, I would recommend that you collect the space export in csv format from the source instance and then try to import the csv export in the target instance. It should work.

Let us know in case of any issues/queries.

Regards,
Rishabh

I stumbled on this same Confluence Cloud issue recently. The root cause is currently undocumented: if the html zip file contains "index.html" file, the result of conversion will be empty documents. No error messages, nothing suspicious in the logs, just correctly named, but empty documents.

Resolution: remove index.html file(s) from the zip file prior to conversion.

I've stumbled some big problems with the HTML importer:

  • Exporting space in HTML then uploading it causes problems
    • All pages are empty - not even text in the page
    • Images are not uploaded, videos as well (they are not in mp4 format)
  • Following @Ahlberg Janne , removing index.html does show some context, issue remains with images (all are showing Preview unavailable), video that is not mp4 is being displayed as file name

Atlassian's response to this that this is still in beta and there are heavy limitations. Atlassian, please do not release beta features in enterprise environments that cannot be used.
