Hello,

I’m currently unable to upload images to Confluence and I’m hoping someone may have encountered this issue before.

I created a page and attempted to add an image using the “+” menu and selecting “Image, video or file.” However, once the upload window opens, both the upload icon and the “Import” button are greyed out and cannot be selected.

I also tried:

- using the top menu options

- using “/image”

- using the AI assistant

- testing on both draft and published pages

- testing in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox

I encounter the exact same behavior in every case.

At this point, I’m wondering whether this could be related to permissions, attachment settings, or a restriction tied to my account or the Confluence space itself rather than a browser issue.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what could prevent image uploads entirely?

Thank you!

Hi @Jessica Tousignant ,

You might see different behaviors on different sites - as you described, you can get to that pop-up panel, but the button is grayed out. Generally speaking, if user does not have permissions to add attachments, they won't be able to see the button (or macro) at all. However, on a couple of my instances, I can see and click on the attachments button, but nothing happens... 🫤

Anyway, as Akradiusz said, you can check how space permissions are configured and assign Add attachments permission as per the official docs: Assign space permissions

A couple of more things worth checking/trying:

  • Drag and Drop: Instead of using the "+" menu, try dragging an image file directly from your computer onto the Confluence page while in edit mode.
  • Verify Attachment Size: Ensure the file isn't exceeding the maximum size limit set by your administrator (default is 100MB).
This one is more for Confluence admins, but they can check how it's currently configured. 👀
  • General app storage: Note that standard plans have a limitation of 250 GB of storage for the whole site. If that limit is (b)reached, you might end up not having the ability to create new content or upload attachments.
More on that here: What happens if I exceed my storage limit?

Cheers,
Tobi

Hello @Jessica Tousignant

Are you a space admin, Site Admin or are you using Confluence as a standard user?

I would check this systematically first:

Space settings → Space permissions → Attachments → Add

If you lack this permission, you have here directly reason and solution.
