I was trying to upgrade my Confluence from version 5.9.6 to 7.13.

I'm receiveing the following error:

Upgrade failed. Please consult the system logs for details. You will need to fix these problems, restore your database and confluence home directory to the pre upgrade state. Then retry the upgrade. Upgrade error message: Upgrade task com.atlassian.confluence.upgrade.upgradetask.DenormalisedSpacePermissionsUpgradeTask@6f55ce93 failed during the SCHEMA_UPGRADE phase due to: StatementCallback; bad SQL grammar [DROP TRIGGER IF EXISTS denormalised_space_permission_trigger]; nested exception is com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'IF'.

I'm running Windows Server 2012 and MS SQL 2014

Hi @Marek Wrzesniak I would recommend to follow the incremental upgrade path to upgrade your Confluence instance like below

current version 5.9.6 which was released in 2016 more than 5 years ago and you upgrading it directly to the latest version which is not recommenced as there are many database, schema, table relations and plugin table changes between version 5.9.6 to latest version 7.13.0

You can upgrade the confluence from version 5.9.6 to 6.13.x if you still face any issues then try upgrading to 6.6.x then 6.13.x once the upgrade is successful and instance is stable then try upgrading to 7.13.0 or upgrade to intermediate version 7.4.x then 7.13.0

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi,

incremental upgrade was not required. Upgrading MS SQL from 2014 to 2016 solved the problem.
