When I drag a .txt file in edit modus it shows the txt file in the browser instead of making it an attachment.
I followed the ChatGPT list of actions but none seem to work:
e.g. this one:
"How to force‑upload a .txt file as an attachment in the new Confluence editor
In the Confluence Cloud editor:
.txt fileThis bypasses all drag‑and‑drop browser problems and always uploads as an attachment."
This one does not seem to work since after clicking files & images *nothing* happens, there is no dialog, nothing.
"
Uploading while editing the page also forces an attachment:
"
This one does not work since this is the problem in the first place
This method always uploads the file as an attachment.
.txt file into the upload box on the Attachments page, not on the main page."
There is NO attachment entry when clicking ...
"
Inside the editor:
Insert → Files & images → Upload file
This bypasses browser drag‑and‑drop behavior entirely and forces Confluence to store the file as an attachment.
"
there is " insert"
Even in newer Confluence versions, Atlassian confirms that drag‑and‑drop there is meant to always attach files. [confluence...assian.com]
Steps:
••• → Attachments → Drag your file here"
This is now in another sidebar details box... but when i click that one and try to drag the txt file I get that I have no rights to add files here.

I am starting to think this has todo with rights on this space
I can't reproduce this behaviour.
I can drag a text file to a Confluence page while this page is in edti mode.
Can you try another browser, or in you current browser are there any add-ons active or clear cache and cookies.
Or try an incognito window
@Edward_de_Leau In addition to the possibility of a browser issue, do you know whether you have space permissions to Add Attachments? If you don't, I would expect Confluence to handle this more elegantly than you describe, but it is another avenue to investigate.
EDIT: You might also want to refer to the Atlassian documentation, rather than asking an AI. This page might help: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/upload-a-file/. Note that the page does mention that you cannot attach a file to a Folder or Live Doc.
