How to track multiple milestones for different issues in Jira?

CHAITRA KUMAR July 10, 2019

Hi, We have a real life scenario where we need to track large programs in Jira. Currently it is done in excel. The structure of the Program looks somewhat like below:

                 Milestone 1 Milestone 2 Milestone 3................Milestone n

Module 1  Date 1         Date 2          Date 3   ......................Date w
Module 2  Date 4         Date 5          Date 6                    Date x

Module 3 Date 7          Date 8          Date 9 ........................Date y

Module n  Date 8        Date 9           Date 10 ......................Date z

The first thing that comes to mind is to have Epics/Tasks as Modules and Sub tasks as Milestone dates. Something like below:

Module 1

      Milestone 1

      Milestone 2

      Milestone 3

      Milestone n

Module 2

      Milestone 1

      So on and so forth.......

But that would make the project too big. Is there a more smarter way to organize this scenario in Jira so that we can still get the same view as above? Basically it is a bunch of dates that we need to track. We thought of creating a workflow for each milestone. But that would only capture status as a snapshot in time. The requirement is to capture forecast dates for all the milestones beforehand and be able to see the same table view in Jira in some report/gadget somehow.

Thanks in advance!
