How to see very precise changes in version history after this latest release?

Becks Mir
February 26, 2026

I noticed yesterday that the version history functionality in Confluence has changed significantly. Instead of a page with all the versions listed out with the changelog notes in a easy to scan column, there is a smaller sidepanel and options to compare are hidden under ellipses. Took me a minute to figure out how to do that. Once I did, and compared two versions, I got an AI summary of the changes (which wasn't precise enough) and the page itself had a banner that stated the changes were too small to reflect. I'm having fun exploring with Rovo but not everything needs an AI summary and AI summaries do not replace precise in-line edit tracking.

The reason I use version history functionality is to see the very precise changes that my team has made in case we make a mistake and need to revert a particular line from an older version (via copy/paste, not revert functionality, since we don't want to revert to an entire older version).

This update has significantly reduced the value in the version history functionality if it isn't able to clearly outline what has been added or removed in terms of copy and formatting.

Is there a way to still see the very precise history still? If not, can I opt into the previous functionality or would you consider bringing that part of the functionality back? Thank you!

@Becks Mir Welcome to the community.

I had a similar problem this week. Rovo told me there was an error running the compare script and provided a suggestion to try, so I:

  1. Took note of the latest version number for the page
  2. Opened the page in View mode
  3. Selected the Ask Rovo button and used the prompt "what were the changes in v93?"

I got a response that the editor had changed the value of 1 table cell from N to Y, with info on which cell in which table.

Thank you Barbara! I'll give that a try next time. I was actually able to get version history to display some other in-line edits similar to previous functionality yesterday, so maybe it was erroring out when I tried that first time.

Hi @Becks Mir

This seems to have been released a couple of days ago according to the latest Atlassian Cloud changes update notificaiton

See; https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/blog/2026/02/atlassian-cloud-changes-feb-16-to-feb-23-2026#AtlassianCloudchangesFeb16toFeb23,2026-confluence

You could raise a ticket at Atlassian Support or provide feedback via the help menu, and feedback option.

Thank you for that Marc - didn't know how else to get my feedback submitted. Just did that, unfortunately the release notes there doesn't go deep into detail about what's changed, hopefully someone gets back to me about my feedback submission.

Is there a way to go back to the old experience?
Is Confluence A/B testing between users within a given org? I have the new experience whilst my colleagues do not.

Hi everyone,

David from the Confluence Cloud product team here. Thank you so much for your feedback.

I wanted to clarify that you should still be able to view the detailed diffs between versions (with the green and red highlights) just like before in the version viewer to the left of the Rovo summary panel. Please ensure that "Highlight changes" is toggled on in the bottom right corner. The summary is an added aid, not a replacement for highlighted chagnes.

In the new experience, the view of the actual version / version comparison content takes up less screen real estate in the old experience (also, it renders in the accurate editor now!). So, it's much more likely that any highlighted changes may be "below the fold" and require scrolling to find them, making it appear as if no changes are highlighted. To address this, we are working on adding the ability to easily hop to changes in the document, making them easier to find.

Please do let us know if you are not seeing diffs between version that have differences between them!

Thank you,

David

@David Michelson I am not able to show the old view

Step 1: I select the 3-dot menu and select Version History

a popup appears "these changes are too similar to display any changes"

Highlight Changes is enabled

Step 2:  I select the other 3-dot menu and select Compare

I select another page to compare to (checkmark)

I press Compare Versions button

I get a Summary "Date Update: The date was changed from February 22, 2026, to March 1, 2026" and a label at the button "Uses AI. Verify results"

Nowhere does it show a colored comparison like the old days.

Hi @David Michelson

It’s great to see someone from the product team active here.

We are currently experiencing the same issue described above: when using page compare, Confluence displays the message “These versions are too similar to display any changes.” and does not highlight any differences in the manual page diff.

Interestingly, the AI change summary correctly identifies the changes between the versions. In the attached screenshot you can see an example: the AI summary correctly detects the modification in the review table, while the manual page diff only shows the error message mentioned above.

We rely heavily on the manual page diff for documentation review, so this issue is having a significant impact on our workflow.

For context, I have been in contact with Atlassian support about this since March 2, but so far we have not been able to identify a solution.

If you have any guidance or could point us in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Thomas

@Eddy Witkamp @Thomas Menne Thank you so much for your additional feedback. I will share these details with our engineering team. While we believe most changes should be correctly highlighted, it seem there may be some special cases where they are not showing up correctly.

@David Michelson thank you very much for the quick reply and for passing this along to the engineering team, I really appreciate it.

The manual page diff is a critical part of our documentation review workflow, so having someone take a closer look at this is extremely helpful. If it helps the investigation, I’m happy to provide additional examples, recordings, or access to affected pages.

Thanks again for taking the time to look into this!

@David Michelson  The new diff view is in principle all good and better than the old one, but the notifications I get from Confluence don't contain the diff anymore. As a consequence it's now much more difficult to judge what was changed as I need to go into Confluence for each notification and manually go and check the diff.

It would be great if the notification would still show the diff, or at least the AI summary of the change (but I would very much prefer the diff - we're operating the same as @Thomas Menne, the exact diffs are very much part of our workflow as some of the specifications are very precise and the AI summary just doesn't cut it.

Do you guys even see version number? I see only list of dates and username. So I had a couple of JIRAs where it was only written that changes to implement are reflected in version X of some page. Rovo says it doesn't know which of the versions is needed one so it cannot show changes to the previous one.

Any solution?

Hi @Kateryna Kalchenko - Thank you for your feedback. We are working on re-introducing the version numbers into the new experience.
