The 'insert excerpt' macro asks for the source page of the excerpt- that seems inconvenient.
Must I track those myself?
Do we have any 'best practices' for naming and tracking excerpts?
Hey there @Jay Maechtlen ,
Yep, that's required. Excerpts do not enforce unique names, so it's necessary to specify a page as source and then the excerpt name.
Also, there's no centralized view or menu with all Excerpts in Confluence, but it is possible to find a list of pages with the macro by checking Data Management > Macro Usage from Confluence Administration and finding 'excerpt' under Advanced Macros.
Here's a sample search:

Hope this helps! =]
Hi @Jay Maechtlen welcome to the community. These aren't 'best practices', but take a look at CONFCLOUD-33268 , It sounds related to your issue.
At this time, it seems like you would need to track them yourself.

I know this is an old thread, but i just released an app that might help you as well.
Imagine an excerpt macro that waits for an approval before it updates citing pages, PLUS you have an overview page on which you can not only display all sources and citation as table, but also search them, export lists as CSV files or even as confluence pages.
If your question is still relevant, you want to have a look at this: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1513354259/bumpin-confluence-citations
Feel free to ask you if you need any special configuration or option.

Jan

Hi Jan
Thanks, that sounds pretty cool.
I don't think we're using excerpts atm, partly due to the standard clumsiness and partly that almost everyone is doing other stuff and only do the minimum on Confluence.
Well, that means there's plenty of room to improve...
