How to make Page Title in a template a variable when creating the template?

I am creating a template page for my group to use.  I like to be able to prompt the user the Page Name like when one create the how-to article page.  But when I highlight the Page Title when creating the template, the variable feature is grey out/not active.  Is there a way to do what I want?  Thanks!

I highly second this. It seems like this feature is still not available. I would like to use variables in the title so that the title gets auto-populated from the user input when creating a new page from the template.
