I have developed a forge application and no I am trying to install it into Confluence Sandbox
When I run 'Forge install' command and specify the site URL I get this error:
Error: The URL you entered doesn't belong to an Atlassian site
The URL I enter is https://confluence-sandbox.<subdomain>.<companyname>.com/
Why do I get that error and how can I fix it?
This app is a proof of concept and I have to install it on sandbox first to verify and test it.
Ok, so I can't install my app on Confluence DC version.
I stumble upon this page which talks about data center approved apps but doesn't go into much details and what I take from it only Marketplace vendors can develop apps for Confluence DC.
https://www.atlassian.com/blog/add-ons/data-center-approved-apps
So basically Confluence DC doesn't support developing apps. And end users of Confluence Data Center don't have an option for customizing their Confluence installation and both Forge and Connect app models are not feasible.
@Alex Koxaras -Relational- Thanks a lot for your help.
Hi @Meysam Naseri and welcome to the community,
Shouldn't the URL be https://confluence-sandbox.atlassian.net instead of https://confluence-sandbox.<subdomain>.<companyname>.com ?
Sandboxes exists only on cloud. On server you can have another copy of your instance as a sandbox. And I think, if not mistaken, that Forge is only for Cloud.

No, it is a sandbox instance. So the URL is not in atlassian.net domain. I didn't find anywhere in Forge documentation that it says that Forge Applications has such a restriction.

@Meysam Naseri the link you provided about the sandbox, is a sandbox within the atlassian.net domain. Of course you can have your own sandbox, only if you are using a server or DC version. Are you?
Forge can be used only for cloud apps and not for server apps.

@Alex Koxaras -Relational- I have read through Forge documentation and even there sections titled 'Limitations' but I didn't ran into any document that list such a restriction as to where I can install Forge and where I cannot. Is there any documentation about "Forge can be used only for cloud apps and not for server apps."? I actually need to find an article in which I can verify what can be done on what version. i.e. Can I use Connect app model on DC version?
The proof of concept app I have developed needs Forge Macro to embed an signed URL into page content which is a critical requirement for our solution.
