I am looking to delete my Atlassian account. When I navigate to https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/account-preferences and select "Delete Account", it tells me You can't delete your account Your account can't be deleted because: User is last billing admin of a transaction account that has one or more active entitlements.
I do see that my account is listed as the organization admin for organization, tasks12, under https://admin.atlassian.com -> Directory -> Users. I figured that, if I just delete the organization (which was a personal test project and I don't need), then that would resolve the original error. I then tried going to Organization Settings -> Profile -> Delete Organization. However, I see the message Before you can delete the organization, you’ll need to: Remove all apps included in your active subscriptions.
When I follow the included link (https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/delete-your-organization/), I start with the Cancel a Subscription page Following the instructions, I see I have two Active Free subscriptions and one inactive Free subscription but, from my understanding, they shouldn't be blocking my organization deletion.
I also see on the admin page under Apps -> Atlassian Apps that there are four free apps linked to the organization with no way to remove them. I am incredibly lost at this point as to what to do. I would've hoped that the process to do all this would be much easier.
Hi @Omar
First, go to admin.atlassian.com -> Billing -> Subscriptions and cancel all the subscriptions listed there, even if they are on the Free plan (like Jira or Confluence). After you cancel them, they will appear in the Inactive section. It may take some time for Atlassian to fully process the cancellation and remove them. Once all subscriptions are completely removed, you should then be able to delete the site and the organization. After the organization is deleted, you can go to id.atlassian.com -> Account Preferences and delete your Atlassian account.
Also, the free apps you see cannot be removed manually. They are connected to the Jira product and will automatically disappear once the Jira subscription is fully cancelled. If you see subscriptions in the Inactive section, it simply means the cancellation is still being processed, so you’ll just need to wait until Atlassian finishes processing it before deleting the organization and your account.
Understood. How long does it for the subscription cancellation to process? I see the Jira subscription was cancelled on 3/5.

It usually finishes within a few days, but in some cases Atlassian may take up to about 15 days to completely remove the subscription after it’s cancelled.

Hi @Omar ,
Yeah... This process is not so intuitive, I have to agree 🥴
As Gunjan said, free plan apps do count as active subscriptions/entitlements and you have to remove those as well before moving forward.
This article states how you can remove domains and apps from your org: Remove domains and apps from your organization
So, if you navigate to admin.atlassian.com > Billing and click on "Manage" for each free app (note that some are bundled with other apps; e.g., Goals and Projects come with some other apps like Jira), in the top right corner, you should have the option to "Deactivate" the selected app.
As you could see from the linked article, it might take a while to actually get this request processed, so you can delete the organization and after that, your Atlassian account. The waiting period is sometimes up to 14 days after canceling subscriptions (before you can delete the org).

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
