How to create an email link with # as part of email

I am not able to create an email link for an email which has # on it:

#ProductSupport-internal@company.com

While a # is technically valid in an email address, a lot of MTAs do not handle it.  You should assume that email addresses with #s are invalid, as there's a good chance they'll go missing.  That's why confluence doesn't recognise it as valid.
