How to build a Data Dictionary?

I would like to configure my Confluence instance to allow me to manage the entities and attributes of my data model, link them to the physical table name and column names. As I have more than 100 entities and 1000+ attributes, I am looking for some sort of parent / child relationship.

I would like to build a page that allows the user to enter the entity name / search for the name and then display the matching attributes, column names, size, mandatory etc in a linked table.

Is there an add on product that I could use for this requirement?

Take a look at LinkedIn DataHub or Lyft Amundsen for this. Confluence isn't necessarily the right solution for this.

I have the same challenge! I wonder if there's  a plugin... Right now we use Excel with versioning in a confluence page... but it's super hard to coordinate.

Not an answer, but I am very curious if you figured out a way to manage a Data Dictionary?

I also have no answer BUT I intend to help us at least take some baby steps in the coming weeks. I've identified a set of tools for creating pretty robust file and variable-level reports (datamaid in R, wordcb in stata, and pandas-profiling in python) and have created some guides for using those. The next step is to figure out a place to save these auto-generated reports, and critically, how to build onto them as the data are explored and the knowledge base around them grows. I *think* confluence is a good place for this...I'll report back with my experience as soon as I am able.

I actually just got started on this a week ago. I think that of the three packages I listed datamaid (now called datareporter, a much appreciated name change) and pandas-profiling are going to be the backbone of the data doc we build. Wordcb is just a little too limited to support the kind of rich documentation my org needs to build.
