How di I implement a worktype counter per automation rule?

Hi All,

I want to increment a field each time a new issue of a certain worktype is created.

The challenge is that I have multiple worktypes in the same space I want to increment a counter field! 

Therefore the issue.property.sequence method does not work. 

Does anybody have an idea how to resolve this issue?

Welcome to Atlassian Community.

The root issue is that the field is linked to an issue, so it will have different values across different issues.

I see two possible solutions:

1. Create a dedicated issue to store the counter, and update its value every time a new issue of the required type is created.
2. Use project properties. This way, the counter is tied directly to the project, not to individual issues — making it consistent and centralized.

• an image of your complete automation rule in a single image for continuity
• images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches
• an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
• explain what is not working as expected and why you believe that to be the case
