I am working with an existing Space (created by someone else) in Confluence to provide customer documentation. The view the customer sees of the documentation isn't particularly navigable. It looks like there are different categories of spaces and the one I'm using is "knowledge base" but I think it should have been created as a "documentation" space. How can I convert the existing space? I can't seem to find anything about this in the Help info for Confluence.
The initial Space Templates are just templates to get you started, as opposed to a type of space you can switch between. You can reorganise your existing space if you want it be more of a Knowledge Base.
The templates provides a base starting page and limits the templates/blue prints on offer in the "Create" button. You can replicate the functions of the KB Template by:
Space Home Page:
Space Settings:
Alternatively, you can press "Show More" when creating pages to select any template/blueprint; you're not limited to those which are promoted.

Thanks for your response. I think part of the problem is that I must not be a Space Admin.
In my own separate space that I created, I can see the templates, but I can't see them on the other space that I'm trying to customize.
Another confusing thing is that what I see when I edit the space is different from what customers see. They see a very streamlined presentation with just a search box and a few links and then when they navigate down to more content, there just isn't any navigation for them to come back out and see what else is there. I want them to see a similar style of navigation to what I see when I edit the pages.
I'm going to work with the guy who is the Space Admin because it sounds like I don't have enough permissions to change it anyways.
Thanks again

No worries :)
It could be that the templates have also been disabled in your space - in the same location as "Promote" there is also an option to "Disable"
In regards to different page visibility, this could be a range of things depending if the page is public or private access, etc.
Reach out to your Space Admin and if you have any further questions, please feel free to reach back out :)
