How can I display Xray Test Steps in Confluence

Hi community,
I'm currently working with Xray to create and manage test cases directly in Jira. I would like to display the detailed Test Steps from Xray within a Confluence page as documentation.

Is there a recommended approach or macro to directly embed or visualize these Test Steps from Xray into Confluence pages?

Hi @Marko 

You will need to install the Snapshots apps for this. Once these apps are installed- it's readily available by just putting a macro on the page - no need to script anything.

The apps you'll need to install:

Snapshots of Jira Data into Confluence 
Snapshots Integration with Xray (Traceability Extensions) --> this one provides the deep integration with Xray, and the macro: "Jira Snapshots Test Report", whih is the one that brings the test steps.

@Marko If your final objective is hand over a documented exported from Xray test information, why don't you skip the Confluence step altogether?

You can export from Xray to PDF directly using the Better PDF Exporter app.

Why do you want to present these steps in Confluence page? I'm curious about this stage in your process. Is the flow: creating test case with test steps --> creating page for this test case and embed there table with test steps?

I often have to create test concepts and test specifications for specific production testers. These tests are developed during the engineering phase and managed in Xray. When it comes to writing the final test documentation for our EMS partners, I want to avoid duplicating the test cases in Confluence — especially the attributes like title, description, preconditions (and possibly postconditions), expected results, and the step-by-step instructions.

Ideally, I would like to reference or embed the Xray test cases directly in Confluence, so that any updates in the test case are automatically reflected in the documentation. This way, I can easily version the document and export it for the EMS provider without manual updates.

Do you think this is possible?

Welcome to the community!

You can use the Xray Document Generator to create custom templates that export Test issues, including their steps, as a formatted document (Word or PDF).

Once generated, you can upload that document to Confluence or link it directly.

X-Ray has no integration with Confluence.

Reach out to the developer and see if this is on their roadmap.
