Help > Losing content

lisa sinclair September 18, 2020

I've got a page in confluence cloud that today has lost changes because the system initially said I had a bad internet connection (didn't affect any other system).

The page locked up even after several Refreshes.

On close and view of page, changes were pending.

Have managed to open and save a few times, and the system says it's saved, then suddenly it's not.

Is there a limit to how much content or tables or elements can be on a page before it collapses?

Hello @lisa sinclair and @DPKJ !

Just like what @DPKJ  said, he contacted us.

We could get around and get some information on page size. Your documents should be good to go as long as they stay between 1 and 2MB in size. This does not take into consideration attachments, only the page content such as text and tables. Currently, there is no hard limit on the size that your pages can get to, just like what @DPKJ said.

Also, good to read that your documents are ok again @lisa sinclair. As a good measure, try to keep your page content under 2MB and it should be handled well by the editor.

Thanks for sharing here with our Community!

@lisa sinclair This is strange and terrifying behaviour when editing a large document.

I think internet connectivity cab be a big reason here, because I don't think Confluence Cloud have any limitation on page size mentioned on documentation. Yes there are multiple evidence of performance degradation on when page size reached certain threshold (~ 2MB).

For exact value of limitations let me check with Atlassian Team and come back.

It wasn't the internet. There are a few tables in the page, one of which was 20+ rows long.

I'm told by a colleague that this scenario has caused issues in the past with documents he's been writing.

@lisa sinclair I have informed Atlassian Team to take a look at this issue on Slack channel, let us wait for them, they might have some insight.

Meanwhile, I did check Atlassian's Status page for Confluence Cloud for incident that might have caused performance issue and found one on 18th September. Please take a look at this page - https://confluence.status.atlassian.com

Thanks for that, I checked the page at the time and it said everything was ok :)
