We're currently evaluating Mantra (by Seibert - appanvil) as part of a Confluence-based intranet replacement project, and we've run into what appears to be a significant gap in the product that I'm curious if others have experienced.
The issue: Mantra's People Directory does not filter out deactivated Atlassian accounts. This means employees who have left the company remain visible in the directory. Even more problematic, Mantra's Anniversaries/Congratulations feature continues to surface work anniversary notifications for deactivated users — essentially celebrating milestones for people who are no longer with the organization.
What we've tried/explored:
- Scoping the directory to a specific Atlassian group (maintaining an "active employees" group as a workaround)
- Not possible with current setup in Mantra
- All Confluence associated accounts are surfaced
- Reviewed Entra sync behavior to see if deprovisioning flows through correctly
- Atlassian accounts are deactivated, not deleted
- Deactivating allows for the user name to remain associated to past work for historical audit purposes
- Deletion of accounts would show "Former user", which is not acceptable
- Raised the issue directly with Mantra support, including proposing use of the Atlassian Org Admin API: Get users in an organization to perform a daily scheduled refresh query and filter out deactivated/suspended accounts
We've had a productive back-and-forth with the Mantra team, but no near-term fix is on the horizon.
My questions for the community:
- Has anyone else run into this with Mantra?
- Have you found a reliable workaround?
- If you evaluated Mantra and passed on it partly for this reason, what did you go with instead?
