Summary
Allow whiteboard creators to set a default "landing view" that determines what area of the canvas viewers see when they first open the whiteboard.
Problem
At the moment, when someone opens a whiteboard, there's no way to control where they land on the canvas. For detailed workflows — like swim lane diagrams with multiple roles and steps — this means viewers can open the board and immediately feel lost, not knowing where to start or what they're looking at. This is especially problematic when sharing whiteboards with stakeholders who aren't familiar with the content.
Proposed Solution
Provide an option for the whiteboard owner to set a "default view" — a saved camera position and zoom level that all viewers see when they first open the board. Something like a "Set as starting view" option in the right-click or board settings menu.
Impact
This would make whiteboards significantly more usable for sharing structured visual content like workflows, process maps, and org charts — particularly with audiences who need to quickly understand the board without a walkthrough.
Hey @Louise Skeats ,
Just to note that a workaround for this could be to use 'copy link to object' feature. Basically, select one or multiple objects > right click > Copy link to object.
This should then generate a link that you can use and share (even within the page tree), and once users click on it, this particular area should be zoomed in. Here's one example based on the previous screenshot.
But your use case makes sense. I didn't find any open feature requests for it, but you can reach out to Atlassian Support team, explain your requirement, and they can raise a feature request/suggestion for you. If they do, I would appreciate it if you could share a link here. 🙏
Cheers,
Tobi
Thanks Tobi 😊. That's really helpful - I've now put a section around the desired landing area and created a link to that - great solution for direct links to the page.
I will see if I can get a feature request raised so that anyone navigating to the page from the menu will land in the correct place.
