Dynamic Report for users without Jira Access

Can I create a dynamic report on Confluence which displays live Jira bug status to users who don't have access to that Jira project?

I have successfully created a Dynamic JIRA issues report but users who don't have browse permissions to that JIRA project cannot view the report properly as the data is blocked.

Is there even a way to mirror this report to them so that it updates with any changes automatically?

Hi Michael,

In a word, no.

In more words, Yes, but only if you're willing to grant anonymous access to your JIRA instance.  JIRA (like Confluence) can be accessed by anyone, as long as they have the right permissions.  If you don't enable anonymous access then only people with an account can access JIRA, and only people with an account and the right permissions will be able to browse projects and issues.

If you want people to be able to view the items in Confluence, you need to give them browse access to JIRA.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for that. I thought as much, I've been attempting from all different angles.

If I must resort to a 'static' report which is pulled from a JIRA filter. Would you know of any method which this report could be updated automatically maybe once a day? Or any way possible of automatically running a JIRA filter into Confluence once a day without manual intervention? In regards to add-ons etc we are currently using Atlassian Cloud version.

Hi Michael,

The JIRA Issues macro (like all reporting macros in Confluence) is a dynamic macro that pulls information in and renders it every time the page is opened or refreshed. So if you want to see the latest info then you've only got to open the page.

Having said that, there are some gadgets that show specific things that can be set to automatically refresh at specific intervals. These gadgets are part of JIRA, but can be added to Confluence if you have both applications linked (which you must have  if you're using the JIRA Issue macro).  You can find a list of all the available gadgets here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jira064/customizing-the-dashboard-720416837.html

As an example, you should have the Activity Stream gadget available in Confluence.  If you add that to your page, you have a Refresh Interval field you can edit (on the right hand side, near the bottom under the filter criteria).  Most of these JIRA gadgets have this Refresh Interval field, so if one of them reports on what you need that would fulfil your need as well.

Hi Rob,

I've tried some of those other gadgets but I still had the same issue, they all displayed 'linked' data from JIRA that could not be viewed by anyone that didn't have access to that JIRA project.

What I'm looking for really is a confluence space / report that displays a 'copy' of JIRA information which can be viewed by anyone. And hopefully that I can automatically update on a daily basis from a JIRA import or similar method.

Hi Michael,

By design, Confluence works out your permissions dynamically and applies them to the pages, macros, comments, notifications and everything else to make sure that it's easy to see what you're allowed to see, and nearly impossible to see anything you're not supposed to see.

So what you're trying to do is break the Confluence security model to allow people to see things that you've said they're not allowed to see.

Is there a reason that you can't give your users read-only permissions to the JIRA projects?

Hi Rob,

Yes that's along the lines of what we're trying to do. I suppose to keep it as simple as possible, we don't want the users to see ALL issues in the JIRA project.

So it would be ideal if we could export specific JIRA information to compile a report. 

I can do this easily by doing it manually, but looking for an automated method / macro that would compile a fresh report daily.

Hey @Mike Live - UK Team did you end up finding a solution to your question here? We have a similar requirement -- basically to be able to create a customer-facing dashboard in Confluence of an underlying Jira project, but we don't want the customer to be able to see any item details in the project itself.

We have the same requirement! It's really important to display the Jira bug status to users who don't have access to that Jira project because of data protection. There is any estimation date for this ? Thanks!

I had a similar problem and i changed the permissions schema for my service desk project.

In Project settings --> Permissions under Brows project i added "Any logged in user". This means that all of our internal users can now view the issues in this project, but they can't change anything. 

It is possible to make the access completely public but this does not feel safe (i did not research the possibility of security issues if using this setting).

I am having the same problem. 

We want to have a page where external users can see the issue-id, issue name, and status of issues that are included in the next release (and marked with specific labels). 

We can create the report easily enough, but when customers who don't have jira access try to use it, they can't see any entries. 

We don't want to give read access to non-logged in users as we would not want them to see any other information about the issues.

Have there been any updates or new methods that would allow us to do this since the previous time the question was asked? Or is there an open feature request page for something like this?
