Do I need to backup mysql database as well as the backups from Confluence?

In order to insure a full data restore, do both of these items need to be backed up? Or can I create a fresh mysql database and import the backup from Confluence?

You need to get a backup of all the pages.  This can be done either with the regular XML export, or with a database export.  You don't need both.

The attachments are separate, just backup the whole attachments directory
