As Atlassian begins including our in-app data from Confluence to train its AI, what guardrails are in place to protect our intellectual property? Or, with this move, are we losing control of our intellectual property?

The key resource to review is here: https://www.atlassian.com/trust/atlassian-intelligence

I would assume that Atlassian updates it after every change in their AI policy.

Hi @David Kazanjian -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Those are excellent questions, and...

As you appear to be on a paid license level, the knowledgebase (KB) articles on this topic appear to indicate customers have some control.  And, only a very narrow set of configurations will be excluded from such data contribution (e.g., government cloud).

I recommend pausing to read all the info in the KB on this topic, re-reading it periodically as the August 2026 timeframe for the changes approaches:

https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/manage-data-contribution-for-your-atlassian-organization/

When you and your peer Product Admins have more questions, I recommend sending them directly to Atlassian Support or your Atlassian contacts:

https://support.atlassian.com/contact#/

Kind regards,
Bill
