Creating Jira Issue From Confluence extra properties

Charles Shaw October 8, 2018

Hi,

When i create a jira ticket from Confluence, the only fields it will allow me to populate are title and description. Looking at a training video on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reiLHEIlXDc#t=25), should i be able to modify the other elements of the new ticket such as Versions and assignees please?

If so, how can i create multiple issues from a table with these values also set please?

Hi Charles,

It's hard to see in the video, but actually the Assignee field isn't there. It's not possible to set Assignee when creating an issue from Confluence, but there have been several feature requests regarding this. The most recent is:

Please feel free to vote and comment on that issue in order to show your support.

Any other fields you want to include need to be required fields. Have a look at How to make a field visible in the Create JIRA Issue dialogue in Confluence.

Resolution

If there are fields that you would like to populate when a ticket is created from Confluence, but do not appear, simply make the fields required in JIRA by following the instructions in this document: Specifying Field Behavior.

After the fields are required in JIRA they will appear on the Create JIRA Issue dialogue in Confluence.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for you prompt response. That explains it. There are other fields on that video though and the server installation which we have doesn't seem to have the other options. The only fields i can see from Confluence are Description and Title. Are these visible under certain configurations etc?

Also, if they are available, would this mean that the JIRA plugin which allows multiple tickets to be created from a table can also use these additional fields?

Hi Charles,

You mean you don't have those fields in Jira either or are wondering how to add them to a screen?

Many of those fields are standard, but the Epic Name field is part of Jira Software. Have a look at Issue Fields and Statuses for more information. Once you add them to your relevant screens, just make sure to set them as required as I mentioned in my last post and they should appear in your Jira issue macro.

As for creating issues together, yes, it's possible. You can see more on Use Jira Applications and Confluence Together.

To create an issue when viewing a page:

  1. Highlight some text on your page and choose the  Create Jira issue icon that appears above the highlighted text.
  2. Enter your server (if you have multiple Jira sites connected to Confluence), project, issue type and description. Your highlighted text will populate the issue summary automatically.
  3. Choose Create.

The issue will be created in Jira and added to your page. If your text is in a table, you'll have the option to create multiple issues using text from the same column.

I hope that's clear but do let me know if you have any additional questions.

Shannon
