is it possible to configure content by label macro to automatically use the label from the current page instead of specifying it inside the macro?

 

In that way, I can have a template set up and the author does not have to worry about configuring the content by label macro. They add the label to their pages, and related articles turn up.

How would you expect it to know which label to use when a page has more than one label?

I think you're actually looking for the "related content" macro, not "content by label"
