I have a page with an introductory paragraph and then a children display that is bulleted. I need to change the children display to a numbered list, but the formatting buttons do not work for this list.
Technically a list (unordered with bullet points or ordered with numbers) is a bunch of list items. A list item is a paragraph with special formatting. The visual result of this formatting is that the first line of such a paragraph is preceded by a bullet point or a number.
What happens when you toggle the formatting with the toolbar buttons?
a) You get a second bullet point or a number before the original bullet point?
b) Only the first line of you list is affected. The other lines stay as they are?
c) Something different happens?
Reason:
a) Somebody wrote multiple paragraphs but pasted the bullet points as characters.
b) Somebody wrote a single paragraph with (soft) line breaks.
c) I don’t know.
Resolution:
a) Remove the bullet points manually. Then use the toolbar buttons.
b) Remove the bullet points manually. At the beginning of each line press back space to remove the line break and press enter to begin a new paragraph. Now you have multiple paragraphs instead of multiple lines. You can now use the toolbar buttons.
c) I don’t know.
