Confluence Upgrade to 7.13.2

Mikhail Carbonell November 8, 2021

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade our Confluence to 7.13.2.

Steps taken:

  1. Create a staging environment.
  2. Check app compatibility
  3. Back up your data,
     database - Done
    installation directory- Done
home directory-  can you do this by just copy and pasting the Home Directory? or should you do it when prompted during the installation? I tried during the installation and it was running for 3 hours then it just crashed.

  4. Download Confluence - Done
  5. Stop Confluence - DONE
  6. Run the installer or extract the archive. - DONE
  7. If you run Confluence as a service on Windows, delete the existing service then reinstall the service by running <installation-directory>/bin/service.bat.

    - Need more explanation on how to this please . how to delete and reinstall?

  8. Reapply custom modifications to the following file(s). Edit the new file, rather than copying the old file, as the default configuration may have changed between versions.

    - Need more explanation on how to this please . how to delete and reinstall?

Also I am now running the upgrade from the Installation and i get this error message. should i cancel? or let it run?

    " com.install4j.runtime.beans.actions.control.RunScriptAction failed "
    Ignore - Retry -- Quit

@Mikhail Carbonell

For the error you are getting there is information here on how to proceed. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-59387

For number 7, you will only need to do this if the JVM version changed.  Depending on what version you are upgrading from this might need to be updated or it might be OK.   If there is a JVM issue it will fail when it starts and then you can make the update or you can update the service beforehand by following the instructions here, number 8 https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/upgrading-confluence-4578.html

For number 8 you can follow the steps here to update your customizations, number 9 https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/upgrading-confluence-4578.html  In most cases you will just need to look at the new and old server.xml file and apply your changes from the old in the new.

Question now is. I tried to access the Confluence by going to https://localhost but i get the error " This site can't be reached " Not sure what am i missing here.

Well I am a novice with Atlassian services but i feel like its so complicated to upgrade. Is there a a third party company that can help you with this upgrade? Professional that can do this for our company.?
